Kardea Brown’s Southern Kitchen Celebrates Grand Opening at Charleston International Airport

Charleston, SC – May 16, 2025 – Silhouette Design Architecture is proud to announce the grand opening of Kardea Brown’s Southern Kitchen, the highly anticipated first restaurant from Food Network star, James Beard Award–winning author, and Charleston native Kardea Brown. Located at Charleston International Airport (CHS), the restaurant is a celebration of Ms Brown’s Gullah Geechee roots, vivacious personality, and signature contemporary Southern cuisine, and was designed, branded, and brought to life by Silhouette Design Architecture for long-time client Delaware North.
Silhouette, who also designed Delaware North’s unique rooftop bar concept, Ashley Cooper Provisions at CHS Airport, brought Kardea Brown’s Southern Kitchen from concept to concourse, providing full-service design support, including interior architecture, brand development, and environmental graphics.
“Our goal was to translate Kardea’s unique culinary voice and cultural story into a space that feels like home—full of character, soul, and Southern charm,” said Tara Carmichael, Design Principal at Silhouette Design Architecture. “This project was about more than just designing a restaurant—it was about building a stage for Kardea’s heritage and hospitality to shine.”
The space features warm woods, layered textures, curated lighting, and vibrant visual storytelling with striking graphics inside and out developed by Silhouette. The result is a warm, vibrant space that feels both personal and proud, evoking the Gullah traditions that inspire Brown’s cooking. Kardea Brown’s Southern Kitchen offers a menu of soulful classics with a fresh twist, from buttermilk fried chicken and Lowcountry shrimp and grits to decadent sides and baked goods—all made with recipes passed down through generations.
Kardea Brown’s Southern Kitchen is now open in the main terminal at CHS Airport. Whether you’re arriving or departing, it’s a must-visit for a true taste of Charleston.
